Why are these manifestos in this Lesson?
The first part of this lesson asks you to consider the differences in feminist political manifestos.
Feminism is not a political party.
Feminist manifestos exist for many different political tendencies in feminism, none of which are “parties”.
There are many feminist and feminist art/cultural organisations and some of these have political mandates.
Most are charities, not-for-profits or NGOs.
What is the difference between their general mission statements and a manifesto?
Part 2 looks at 3 manifestos from different women artists’ groups which launched or closed the group.
What is it about these which are different from mission statements?
Part 3 then looks at two attempts to build different feminism in art institutions through manifestos outlining feminist principles.
