Why are these manifestos in this Lesson?
The aim of this lesson was to consider different versions of feminist futures.
The first part of the lesson contrasts VALIE EXPORT and Anne Berg and Monica Sjoo’s manifestos.
Both were written and published in relation to the organisation of early feminist exhibitions in the 1970s. The history of this is outlined.
The second part of this lesson looks at 3 different approaches to film-making: one avant-garde practice, one collective practice and one individual artists’ approach.
The third part of the lesson considers 3 individual artists whose work seeks to outline principles for moving forward for women artists, with the emphasis on developing potential new directions in work and in thought.
